Malaysian student volunteers Sidharth Nagappan, Cornelius Pang, Sin Yin, and Shaun Mak have successfully launched a Bendera Putih app (which has now been renamed to Sambal SOS app) on June 4th, signaling a major contribution to the movement carrying the same name.
The purpose of the app is to crowdsource and centralize different reports of physical white flags and food bank locations all around Malaysia in order to reach those in need.
This is what the map looks like on desktop view. You'd need to log in with your Gmail account prior to being given access. According to one of the founders, Siddarth clarified that login details are currently required for authentication purposes. This is meant to control the server’s API requests.
• This what you'll be asked to fill in if you wish to report a sighting of the white flag:
• If you click on the 'Food Banks' button, you'll be directed to this page where you can fill a form with the information of food bank location(s) that you know of that haven't been featured.
You can read up more information on the Bendera Putih app on their official Facebook page here. They also have an Instagram page that you should follow for more updates. If you wish to download the app, click here.
