The act of a civil servant who allegedly posted a picture on Facebook of an alleged inmate washing his car received quite a backlash online, with many labelling it as unethical.
According to the Facebook status, the prison officer allegedly ordered an inmate to do something of his own personal interest. "Why wash your own car when prisoners can do it for you," was the caption he wrote on his Facebook page.
The Facebook post then went viral on Twitter, which garnered even more attention. Ultimately, the Malaysian Prison Department was forced to issue an official statement to address the issue.
According to the official statement, the prison inmate car wash service is open to the public with a reasonable fee and quality service. Secondly, the prison inmates involved are all trained in a rehabilitation program known as Outside Prison Work For Prisoners (BKLP). Thirdly, each occupant receives a wage or salary accordingly.
Despite the clarification, a civil servant should've known not to post anything that degrades another party that suffers enough discrimination from the society around them. Let's hope he learns his lessons.
