A teenage boy is feared to have drowned after falling into Sungai Pahang from a floating platform while fishing with friends at Jalan Kampung Pedah, Kampung Jerantut Feri.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, and the victim has been identified as Azri Fahmi, 14. According to a spokesperson from the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), they received an emergency call about the incident at 5:07 PM.
Eight personnel from the Jerantut Fire and Rescue Station were promptly dispatched to the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that Azri was fishing with two friends on the floating platform when he accidentally fell into the river. Strong currents swept him away, and he has not been located as of now.
"The fire and rescue team conducted a surface water rescue search using the villagers boats across a 1.5-kilometer area. The Operations Centre has also activated the Water Rescue Team from the Bukit Angin Fire and Rescue Station," the JBPM spokesperson said in a statement.
The search operation, which involves cooperation from the police and assistance from local villagers, is ongoing. Authorities are doing their best to locate Azri, but the challenging river conditions have made the task difficult.
