How does it feel going into 2021 but still stuck at home? After Dalgona coffee, Plato, Among Us & loads of online shopping (lol), you might be itching for the next best hobby. If you love crafts & recycled aesthetics, meet BuJo's (bullet-journal) sister, JuJo or JUNK JOURNAL!
Junk journal is a book that you fill with paper scraps at home: mails, catalogues, quotes, old greeting cards, or magazine bits.
Add in cute buttons, fabric, stickers, dried flowers, seashells or anything pretty that you can find at home too.

Disclaimer: Don't hunt through your trash cans! This is NOT that kind of junk.
Here are some inspo on what you can piece together with your hands.
A memory album

Don't you think albums are too plain? Keep your memories safe and fun to look at in a journal. Photos is just one part of it. You can add other items like ticket stubs, notes, birthday cards, or receipts that will take you back to those moments.
Everything from your days with Grandma (I'm crying) to lovely dates with bae belongs in this precious book.
A diary

There must be many little things that you collect in a day: Starbucks receipt, a parking ticket (oof), or a cute flower on the sidewalk. Turn your daily life into an interesting story. Pour out anything that's on your mind in those bright, colorful pages. You'll be surprised to see how you enjoy your days.
A planner

Your life will be a mess if there's no planner. But, honestly, who has the mood to jot down on boring, black & white pages? Let your personal touch with washi tape and stickers turn it into an eye candy. Change the weekly & monthly layout for variety. There's your motivation to keep track of things you need to do.
A personal gift

Ok, gifts aside, everyone loves to receive thoughtful notes and cards on birthdays, Valentine's Day, or Christmas. So, 7-8 pages of memories in a handmade, decorated book would mean so much to your loved ones. You can add themes and color palettes that they might like into each page. That journal & your love are something they'll treasure forever.
Now, grab some green tea, play the angelic Claire de Lune, and enter your own magical world. Here are some basics to get you started.
1- Think of a subject.
You need an idea what the journal is for like I've mentioned above. Then, choose a theme, like 'sunflowers', 'animals' or 'Halloween'. No need to have a super specific focus. But stay on track so your work isn't too messy.

2- Find your book.
Some might like ready-made ones to save time. You can use any kind: ring bind, sewn, or stapled from Popular, Shopee or your neighborhood bookstore. If you like it more original, bind finished pages into a journal yourself.
3- Get what you need.
Check out this complete list of stuff & see if you can find them laying around your house. Maybe, ask friends & family too.

4- Prep the base.

Before you get crazy with journalling, remember it's going to get this thick. You'll need to make the bind stronger if you are using a ready-made one. Do that with a bookbinding tape.
For DIY binding, here is when you make the covers, prepare base papers, & punch holes or sew everything together.
5- Fill up.
Layer away! It's one way to make all the details pop up. So, start with larger items, medium ones, & the smaller bits on top. Anything that is flat and fits into the pages will work. So, make it special lace, old ribbons, or stamps. You'll learn more techniques as you keep up with your art.
There's no one right way to junk journalling! Just let your creativity flow & see each page turn into a beautiful masterpiece.
