To ensure a safe experience of all ages, especially teens, TikTok has introduces Family Pairing, which allows parents and teens to customize their safety settings when using the app. Family Pairing providing parents better control of their teen's online experience while allowing time to educate about online safety and digital citizenship.
The Family Pairing features allow parent to link their TikTok account to their kid's and set control including:
- Screen Time Management: Parents can control the screen time their kid can use each day.
-Restricted Mode: Parents can restrict and filter the appearance of the inappropriate content to their kids.
- Direct Messages: Parents can limit the messaging of their kid's account, for example, restrict who can send messages to the connected account, only approved followers can message each other, restrict the media (video/ image) to be sent in messages or even disabled direct messaging completely to protect the younger users. Starting April 30, TikTok will be taking those protections one step further and will automatically disable Direct Messages for registered accounts under the age of 16.
The set up is easy, just select Digital Wellbeing settings from the account you wish to connect, add your account and scan the QR code to connect both accounts.
"We believe these options promote a safer and more trustworthy experience for our users of all ages, but our progress in this area is also never finished. We look forward to working with all our stakeholders as we continuously seek to improve through new features and resources to help our community manage their digital experience.
