What is clean skincare, and is it more than just hype?
Skincare is more than just beauty maintenance these days; it has also transformed into a green movement where consumers are more aware than ever of what they‘re putting on their skin and whether those ingredients can harm the sole planet we’re living in. Nasty words like parabens, hydroquinone, sulfates, oxybenzone, and the likes (yuck!) have become the villain in the skincare realm which eventually birthed the clean skincare trend or clean beauty in general.
Simply put, clean skincare is a concept where harmful chemicals and methods are completely absent in the production of a beauty product—which ranges from cruelty-free makeup and skincare brands to chemical-free makeup and skincare products.
Clean beauty isn't just a trend, however. The educational aspects of clean beauty have paved a way for vegan and cruelty-free makeup and skincare brands to thrive, as consumers no longer want to support the harmful production of beauty products that impose more harm to the planet and those that inhibit it.
Important keywords to remember:
Clean: beauty products that are usually free of sulfate, parabens and toxic chemicals.
Vegan: The products contain no ingredients that are animal-derived.
Cruelty-free: the products and their ingredients are, at no time, tested on animals, and the brand is not available in China, where animal testing is sometimes performed by law.
That being said, it can be quite a challenge for us Malaysians to acquire clean skincare on our shelves due to the limited options sold in local beauty stores and as for private online sellers, most of them don't offer most sough-after international brands and even if they do, the authenticity can't always be confirmed. Whoever came up with this brand deserves a special place in heaven.
