The practice of implementing a "no plastic bag" policy in most supermarkets has been in effect for quite some time now, urging shoppers to bring their own bags from home. Alternatively, one could opt to pay an additional fee for a plastic bag, although some places don't even offer this option.
Recently, a Facebook user in the B40 Buat Perangai Apa Harini group shared their experience about a supermarket visit where plastic bags weren't provided for customers to transport their purchased items home.
In the user's post, they explained that they had spent over RM300 on groceries. However, when they reached the checkout counter to pay, they were informed that plastic bags were not available. This left them puzzled about how to carry all their items to their car. In response, they told the cashier they would return with a basket from their car. The cashier requested payment first due to other customers waiting in line. In an attempt to escape the situation, the individual pretended their cash was in the car and hastily left the store, expressing a sense of pride in their actions.
Later in the post, the individual encouraged others to adopt a similar strategy, aiming to teach the supermarket a lesson. They asserted that their approach succeeded when the supermarket displayed a banner on the third day announcing the absence of plastic bags. "On the third day, I saw them hang a banner that said 'Plastic bags are not provided here.' By then, I saw fewer people entering the mart (supermarket). Serves them right," they recounted.
They also indicated their intention to apply the same approach to other stores that don't offer plastic bags to customers. However, this sharing received criticism from many, as the majority of people were displeased with the individual's actions. Netizens believed that the individual's behaviour suggested underlying personal issues to stoop to the level of encouraging others to follow suit.
