A video posted by TikTok user @thejokercho describes how, at the age of 16, he was arrested in a shopping center in Klang, Selangor, for not having an identity card.
He clarified that the event happened after he misplaced his identity card and was issued a temporary one on a slip of paper.
However, he decided to retain the temporary IC at home to prevent any harm to the paper.
As luck would have it, that fateful day saw a group of police officers performing an inspection and apprehending several foreigners at the scene.
He was abruptly requested to move aside for an examination as well, and it dawned on him that he was missing his temporary identification card.
The young guy was arrested along with the other foreigners and transported to the police station since he did not possess legitimate documentation proving his citizenship in Malaysia.
"Yes, I didn't have my identification with me when the cops requested it. In summary, I was placed in handcuffs. Because my friend had his IC with him, he was let off. In the TikTok video, he stated, "I told him to tell my dad."
After spending four days in detention, the guy was tried in court and given a one-day prison term.
I vowed not to do this again and to always carry my identification with me, as I promised the court. The magistrate struck the table, and declared a day in prison. My neighbor reassured me that all it takes is "one day in jail," which is just time spent in court. "Just stay until four o'clock so I can head home," he said.
The individual disclosed that his family members had given him a lemon water bath at home and had thrown away the clothing he had been wearing while he was in lockup, following his brief release from prison.
According to him, it's customary for elderly individuals to be placed under custody by the authorities.
The TikTok user cautioned the audience at the end of the video to always carry their identification whenever they go outside out of concern that they would face similar punishment.
