A fatal road accident claimed two lives late last night at Jalan Pontian near the Taman Desa Skudai roundabout in Johor. The crash, which occurred at 12:11 a.m., involved a sedan and a 10-tonne lorry.
According to Berita Harian, the collision left two men, both aged 43, dead at the scene, while the lorry driver, a 36-year-old man, escaped with minor injuries.
Skudai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Operations Commander Suraini Adnan reported that their team was alerted to the accident shortly after it occurred. "We dispatched seven personnel and two fire engines to the scene," he said.
Upon arrival, rescuers found one of the victims trapped inside the wrecked sedan. Using specialized tools, the team worked to extricate the victim before handing him over to the police and paramedics. The second victim, though not trapped, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The lorry driver survived the crash and required no immediate medical attention.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, which comes just three days after a separate tragic incident on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) that claimed seven lives when a trailer trucks tyre came off, causing a multi-vehicle collision.
The back-to-back incidents highlight the ongoing concerns over road safety in the country.
