Discuss These Things Before Moving In Together Or Risk Breaking Up!

As society gets more and more modern, it is now less of a taboo for couples to actually move in together before getting married. Honestly, this is a good thing because many couples who love each other just can't stand living together. It's better to test the waters than to regret further down the road.

Although moving in together may sound fun and exciting, you will definitely need to talk about these things with your partner beforehand. They might seem embarrassing, sensitive, or minor, but trust us when we say these are the issues that cause couples to break up after moving in together!

1. Sex

Let's get to the big stuff right out the gate. When you're not staying together, you will be missing each other most of the time, so whenever the opportunity arises, both of you will want to and try to get intimate. However, when you're staying together, you can literally have sex anytime you want, so it is a matter of libido and sex drive.

Heads up: one partner will definitely want more than the other. If there is a sex drive mismatch there will definitely be frustration. Another thing to keep in mind is that while you're having more sex, you'll start to lose interest quicker if you keep doing the same thing (especially when one partner always does more work than the other) and it'll lead to more problems.

2. Money

When apart, money you spend on things that you like might seem normal to you. But when staying together, you will get the sense of "sharing" money with your partner, and doing the same thing will start some heated conversations.

Maybe you guys have different thoughts on saving? You perceive value differently? One of you don't think they should pay for half the bill because they are not the ones working at home and keeping the air conditioning running? The topics for arguments are endless!

3. Timing

We're not talking about being early or being late (but that is definitely one thing that will lead to fights, for sure), we're talking about your timing in life. This is an especially huge problem when two parts of a couple are in different phases of life: studying vs working, early 30s vs early 20s.

Also, you might have different ideas on when is the right time to get married or meet the parents. When you're on different timelines, it's like trying to communicate with each other on trains travelling at different speeds.

4. Quality Time

Being apart for even a day or two will make the time you guys spend together more precious and magical. That is the exact opposite when you are within each other's bubble 24/7. Many couples that stay together either argue about not having their own personal space, or not spending enough time together.

You might have different ideas about quality times too. One of you might think that watching TV together every night is good quality time while the other wants to go for a walk outside after dinner. For situations like these, it's better to talk out a plan even if it seems too "formal" for a loving relationship.

5. Chores

The final killer is something we all hate (well, there are people who love doing chores so keeping them in your life is a wise choice). When you're no longer staying with your parents, you can't just be expecting each other to do the chores. Each partner will have their own struggles throughout the day, and if you nag at each other about chores, be prepared for world war.

So, these seem to be 5 mundane topics that no one wants to talk about. But, if you want a happy and long lasting relationship, they are exactly the 5 things you MUST talk about with your partner. Set up plans and organize schedules and you'll never have to argue over the small stuff again!
