On January 23, 2022, a 55-year-old man named Poh Seng Hiap was found dead in his kitchen in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

His wife, Lau Seck Yan, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. It is alleged that the couple had a dispute over money, which ultimately led to the murder.

The police found the murder weapon and conducted an investigation under Section 302 of the Criminal Code (murder), with the death penalty as the only punishment if found guilty.

It was reported that Lau Seck Yan denied in English that she had murdered her husband when she appeared in court in Seremban.

Suddenly, she was "possessed" by her deceased husband and claimed that she was Poh Seng Hiap.

She also claimed that "he" was not murdered, but it was predestined for "him" to die.

Lau Seck Yan, who had previously run for a parliamentary seat in Port Dickson, spoke in English and said:

"Poh Seng Hiap was not murdered, he just died when his time was up. Now Poh Seng Hiap is speaking. You have to understand that my wife did not kill me. Poh Seng Hiap is here. Why don't you listen to me? My wife did not kill me. I just died when my time was up, and it was predestined for me to die."

These dramatic statements caused a sensation in the courtroom, with the people present being shocked, but the family members sitting in the front row of the court appeared calm.

Lau Seck Yan repeated these words repeatedly, and the judge immediately intervened to say that the case still needed to go through the trial process, and requested that the defendant wait for the trial before making a statement. Lau Seck Yan stopped speaking afterwards.

Subsequently, the High Court decided to hold the trial from March 3 to 7 and from March 17 to 21, 2025.

Lau Seck Yan immediately interrupted and asked the judge for a fair trial, and requested that the case be tried earlier. She also wished the judge "Selamat Hari Raya" (Happy Eid).

The judge stated that as there is only one High Court judge for criminal cases in Negeri Sembilan, this is the earliest date possible.

Netizens have speculated that the defendant was acting, while some believe that the defendant may be suffering from a mental illness:

-"Based on my years of drama-watching experience, she is not possessed by a ghost, but has a split personality."

-"Someone, use chopsticks to pinch her middle finger, pinch her each time she speaks up, and she will stop."

-"Wow! It has come to this point, playing the ghost possession card, and even the judge has surrendered..."

-"If she is competing for an Oscar, Yang Ziqiong will definitely lose to her."
