We all know how Malaysians love their freebies, but what happens when you're discriminated against for not receiving something that was supposed to be given for free?
One Malaysian, Amirul Hakim, took to social media to vent his frustration after a FamilyMart cashier refused to give him the Special Edition Pokemon ang pao packets, despite his purchase of RM30.20 worth of goods from the store.
The customer claimed that the cashier bluntly stated that the ang pao packets were only for "Chinese only" as per instructions from top management.
Following the viral post, a FamilyMart staff publicly apologised to him and informed him how he could collect the ang pao packets immediately, expressing numerous apologies for the inconvenience caused.
While some might see it as a minor issue, the customer felt discriminated against and even lodged a complaint via email, hoping to get the attention of YBhg Oscar Yap Tong, the Chief Executive Officer of FamilyMart Malaysia.
However, many netizens criticized the man's reaction, deeming it petty. Despite receiving a public apology, he maintained it wasn't enough, stating, "jangan cari pasal dengan pokemon trainer" (don't mess with a Pokemon trainer). This response further fueled a backlash against him on social media.
Would you have gone to such lengths just because you didn't receive the free goodies?
