Kelantan police successfully neutralized one of the state's most wanted criminals in a shootout early this morning. The incident occurred at Jalan Jeram Pasu around 5:30 a.m., leaving a 31-year-old suspect dead on the spot.
According to NST, Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that the suspect was wanted for various offences, including drug-related crimes, and had an extensive criminal record with 24 previous offences.
The operation unfolded when a police team spotted the suspect's vehicle in the Melor area of Kota Baru. They trailed the car until it reached Jalan Jeram Pasu, where they attempted to stop it. However, the suspect resisted and opened fire on the officers.
"In self-defense, the police returned fire, leading to the suspect being fatally shot at the scene," Mohd Yusoff said during a press briefing at the location.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered a semi-automatic firearm, a fake pistol, a parang (machete), and a packet of dried tobacco, believed to be drug-related.
Mohd Yusoff described the suspect as a notorious criminal in the state, actively evading law enforcement for an extended period. The body was transported to Pasir Puteh Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and further investigations are ongoing.
This incident marks a significant step in cracking down on crime and drug-related activities in the region.
