An elderly woman in Brazil was hospitalized due to stomach pains, only to discover that she had a 44-year-old fetus in her uterus.
A doctor in the state of Tocantins conducted an X-ray on the 88-year-old lady's stomach and discovered a condition known as "stone baby." The X-ray revealed the baby's face, arm and leg bones, ribs, and spine, indicating that the baby had died between 20 and 28 weeks.
According to the woman, she was aware of her pregnancy 40 years ago and consulted a witch doctor when she experienced pain during her pregnancy. The witch doctor gave her a mixture to drink that made her feel better right away.
The woman believed that she had lost the baby when her stomach stopped growing, and the baby stopped moving. However, the fetus did not come out of her body and was covered in calcium, resulting in a "stone baby" condition known as lithopedion.
The woman is said to be in good health despite her condition, and her family is currently being consulted about the possibility of surgical removal of the fetus.
In a similar case in Colombia, an 82-year-old woman had a 40-year-old fetus removed from her body, while a 92-year-old Chinese woman had a case of lithopedion in 2013. She had been informed that the fetus had died in 1948, but she was unable to afford the cost of its removal.
