Authorities in Kota Kinabalu are investigating a viral video showing a woman exposing herself at a well-known Maybank signboard along Jalan Gaya. The video, initially shared on a Chinese social media platform, has since spread widely through WhatsApp, causing public concern.
Kota Kinabalu police chief, Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda, confirmed that an investigation is underway. The police are working closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to trace the origins of the video and identify the individual who posted it online.
The footage, which has sparked outrage and concern, includes a watermark that has led to speculation that the woman involved may be a tourist. However, authorities are still investigating to confirm her identity.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which deals with acts intended to insult the modesty of another person. If found guilty, the individual responsible could face imprisonment of up to five years, a fine, or both.
In the event that the person involved is a foreigner, local authorities may also impose additional penalties, including travel restrictions or deportation.
As the investigation continues, the police have urged the public to refrain from sharing or further disseminating the video to prevent further harm and embarrassment to those involved.
