7 Things The Royal Family Can‘t Do

Meghan Markle’s recent interview with Oprah Winfrey was a huge (controversial) hit. During the interview, beans were spilled about the British Royal Family, even to the point where there were claims of racial discrimination within the most popular family in the world. This has caused splitting differences in the people's opinions.

Thanks to the interview, most Americans have a more positive view of Prince Harry and Meghan, but popularity in the United Kingdom has sunk to rock bottom. Even the relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William turned sour. Well, whether you support them or not, here are 7 (some absurd) things you ought to know that the Royal Family cannot do!

1. No Signatures or Autographs for Fans

According to "The Independent", this is to prevent any forgery attempts of Royal Family signatures. However, this rule has been broken before by Meghan Markle during their first public event soon after their engagement. Meghan signed an autograph for a 10 year old girl with a little heart and a smiley face.

2. No Selfies with Fans

This is a matter of security because in order to take a selfie, a Royal Family member would have to get extremely close to the public and usually with their backs faced towards them. This rule has also been broken when Prince William posed for selfies during his and Kate Middleton's royal tour of Ireland.

3. No Voting

According to their official website, in terms of politics, the Royal Family has to maintain a strict neutrality. Therefore, Royal Family members are prohibited from expressing their political views in public or showing support for a certain political party. That, of course, means they can't vote for any one of them as well.

4. No Dressing Up Too Casually

When we see the Royal Family, they will never be in jeans or sweatpants. The outfits of Royal Family members are always well thought out and prepared. There is also an old rule whereby female members of the family must be seen with a hat, which will be replaced by a tiara at night if the member is married. Fun fact: royal members carry a black outfit at all times incase they had to attend a sudden funeral.

5. Curtsies

Although there are no obligatory codes, many members of the Royal Family stick to the traditional behavior when meeting other members (especially those of a higher rank), that means a head bow from the men and a small curtsy from the women.

6. No Public Displays of Affection (PDA)

Again, there are no strict rules about this, but doing "couple things" such as kissing, hugging, or holding hands in public is generally frowned upon. Of course, this rule has been broken a couple of times as we've seen Prince William and Kate Middleton hugging at sporting occasions. Don't even get us started on Prince Harry and Meghan.

7. No Sleeping Before the Queen

According to reports, sleeping before the Queen is very disrespectful. According to Queen Elizabeth II's former secretary, Sir William Heseltine's book, Princess Diana used to think the long nights in the palace were painful as everyone would just sit and talk in the hall for hours.

[BONUS] No Eating After the Queen Finishes

Yup, if you happen to be lucky enough to dine with the Royal Family, remember to have a snack beforehand or plan for supper afterwards as there are no second portions when the Queen is done with her food.

So, which of these rules do you think should be follow and which of these do you think are just plain crazy?
