A woman in her 40s showed incredible bravery on Monday (December 16) when she risked her life to save her beloved pet dog from a burning house in Penang.
The incident, which occurred around 6 pm at Hong Seng Farm, Mount Erskine, was reported by Harian Metro. Upon returning home from work, the woman was confronted with the horrifying sight of her house engulfed in flames. Her brother informed her that their dog was still inside, prompting her to take swift action.
"I thought the dog was at the front of the house before I chose to enter. Fortunately, it was still alive, and we were not injured," she shared, recounting her relief after successfully rescuing her pet.
Her home was one of seven affected by the fire, which displaced multiple families in the area.
Another resident, 50-year-old Steven Morgan, shared his own harrowing experience. He heard a loud explosion before his 16-year-old son spotted smoke coming from the houses. In the chaos, he acted quickly to save his wife and son but had no time to retrieve any belongings.
"We didn't have time to take any items, including identification documents. We were only thinking about saving ourselves," he said. "Our house was completely destroyed. I can't even estimate the damages, but I'm grateful all my family and neighbors are safe."
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but it is suspected to have started in a house that was used to store and repair electrical equipment.
Steven also revealed that this wasn't the first time his family had faced such a tragedy. Four years ago, part of his house was burned in a similar incident.
"This time, everything is gone. Nothing is left, and I'm at a loss as to where we can stay now," he lamented. He added that local representatives are working to arrange temporary accommodations for the affected families.
The fire has left the community in shock, but acts of courage, such as the woman's determination to save her dog, stand as a testament to the resilience of those affected.
