In a viral TikTok video that has stirred emotions across Malaysia, a 20-year-old Indian woman who had just given birth was seen seeking refuge at Surau Madrasatul Huda in Alor Setar, Kedah. The footage, posted by TikTok user @shownbotak, captured a deeply moving moment of compassion as surau committee members stepped up to provide safety and support to the frightened young mother and her newborn baby.

According to Harian Metro, the woman was first found behind the home of the surau secretary, visibly anxious and confused. Trembling with fear, she softly pleaded, "I'm scared, please don't chase me away."

Shamsul Anuar Aziz, the man behind the TikTok video and a member of the suraus congregation, recalled the moment he first saw the woman. After completing his Maghrib prayers on the night of May 24, he noticed her walking slowly past the surau. Her eyes and body language suggested she was in distress. The baby she carried was wrapped in nothing but a yellow towel, and she held only a small plastic bag.

Soon after, Shamsul received a phone call from his cousin, who had spotted a woman hiding in the dark near their homes. Alongside a few surau members, Shamsul approached and found her crouched behind a car. "It was dark, and she looked like she wanted to run away," he said. "When I called out, she quietly said, 'please don't chase me away.' I nearly cried hearing that."

Moved by her plea, Shamsul gently persuaded her to come to the surau, where the committee offered her a safe space to rest. Although the young woman was hesitant at first, she eventually opened up about her situation.

She revealed she had been staying with a friend who was also struggling financially. Her husband is currently in prison, and she had no income or place to go. Feeling unsafe, she left the home and wandered aimlessly with her newborn in search of help.

Deeply concerned for the mother and child, the surau committee sprang into action. They bought baby formula, diapers, and other necessities to ensure the newborn was cared for. Learning that the woman had a brother in Penang, they helped her contact him and arranged a train ticket for her that very night.

"This was the first time something like this happened at our surau," said Shamsul. "But we didn't care about race or religion; what mattered was ensuring she and her baby were safe."

The video has since gone viral, garnering thousands of heartfelt comments. Many users praised the kindness of the surau members, with some Penang-based TikTok users even offering to help the mother further once she reached her brother.

In a time when headlines are often filled with division, this story stands as a powerful reminder of humanity, empathy, and the importance of lending a hand to those in need, no matter their background.
