Besides the wide variety of delicious and cheap street food, the one thing that we know Penangites are proud of is none other than their iconic wall murals. From “Little Children on a Bicycle” to “Boy on a Bike” and “Reaching Up” etc., these fascinating artworks not only express the peaceful daily life in Penang but has also attracted many locals and tourists to pose for photos.
Now, street art once again makes Penang proud when 2 of the container murals featured in conjunction with Penang International Container Art Festival make it to the list of Best of January 2020, voted by the Street Art Cities community worldwide.
For your information, there were a total of 80 artworks across the globe nominated and our very own container murals in Penang have won 2 spots out of the top 8.

2nd Placing: Hope for the Future by Julia Volchkova

7th Placing: Connection by Caryn Koh
Location: Aspen Vision City, Batu Kawan
The other equally amazing container murals can be found at Prangin Mall (Georgetown), Kampung Terang (Balik Pulau) and Dataran Pemuda Merdeka (Butterworth), where each of them is painted on a stack of shipping containers that measure about 10 metres high.
As reported by The Star, these stunning artworks completed by 7 brilliant Malaysian artists and 5 of their talented counterparts from Russia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Ukraine aim to boost tourism and revitalize the neighborhood in Penang.
