Jalan Othman wet market and its surrounding commercial area have been reportedly placed under lockdown yesterday (May 9) night.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has confirmed the news, adding that the lockdown was imposed following the advice of the Ministry of Health (MoH) after 26 positive COVID0-19 cases were detected in the area to date, reports Malay Mail.
“The government on the advice of the Health Ministry has decided to impose the eighth EMCO area at Jalan Othman wet market area involving 2,900 residences and commercial premises,” he said in a statement.
The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) takes effect from May 10 until May 23.

According to China Press, security forces were seen rolling out barbed wire fences to block the surrounding area and setting up roadblocks for road closures leading to the market on Saturday night.
It is learnt that over 28 roads around the affected areas have been closed. This includes Jalan Penchala and the road leading from Hospital Assunta to the market.
