The brutal killing of 17-year-old child bride Mona Heydari has sparked international outrage, after a video of her husband proudly parading her severed head on the street was released to the public by a local news agency. According to multiple sources, her husband decapitated her head with the help of his brother after discovering her alleged adultery.
The late Mona Heydari was forced into marrying her cousin, Sajjad Heydari when she was only 12. She had faced multiple fits of abuse from her husband ever since and had attempted to flee multiple times. Prior to her death, she had managed to run away to Turkey, before being persuaded home by her family who had promised her she'd face no threats if she were to return.
After she was brutally beheaded, Sajjad's brother wrapped her body in a blanket while he took to the streets, carrying his dead wife's head with a grin on his face. Needless to say, onlookers were shocked at the scene and shouted at him.
Latest reports say both Sajjad and his brother have since been arrested and confessed to the gruesome murder of 17-year-old Mona Heydari. Femicidal violence, unfortunately, is not rare in Iran. Countless young women have been the victims of honor killings in the Middle East, which largely stems from its toxic patriarchal belief.
Mona Heydari deserved better. May her soul finally rest in peace.
