Malaysia Airports, the airport management corporation that runs Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), has praised a police officer for his bravery during the April 14 shooting incident at the airport.
Malaysia Airports thanked the police officer, Corporal Mohammad Shafiq Safi'ai, an Aviation Security (AVSEC) member, for carrying out his responsibilities with responsibility and dedication to protect tourists' safety at KLIA, via Facebook.
Malaysia Airports honored him for his bravery. According to the post, Shafiq responded quickly by aiming his handgun at the suspect after he fired two bullets at the airport.
Following Shafiq's daring acts, the suspect fled the area, sparking a countrywide manhunt for him.
The culprit was apprehended in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in less than 48 hours.
Malaysia Airports posted two images to the post, one of Shafiq and the other of him getting a certificate of gratitude and a counterfeit cheque for RM1,000 given by Malaysia Airports.
The iconic shooting incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. at the KLIA Terminal 1 arrival hall, during which the suspect fired two rounds at his wife.
Both gunshots missed her, but one injured her bodyguard, Nur Hadith, who was later hospitalized in severe condition.
