A 5-year-old boy became the first child in the United States to die from a rare complication caused by COVID-19.
New York Governor, Andrew M. Cuomo recently revealed that the relevant departments are working hard to study the complications. According to Cuomo, the children infected with the COVID-19 can become ill with symptoms alike to the Kawasaki disease that literally causes inflammation in their blood vessels.
Cuomo advised people to promptly look for medical care if their child showed symptoms such as fever (for at least five days), difficulty in eating or drinking, severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, change in skin color, a racing heart, or decreased urination.

Dr. Mark Gorellick, a pediatric rheumatologist and immunologist at Columbia University, said he was called by the hospital to diagnose these child cases in order to see if they had Kawasaki disease. However, in his opinion, it is just that these children's symptoms are similar to Kawasaki disease.
*Kawasaki disease (KD): a disease named after Tomisaku Kawasaki who discovered it in 1967. This disease primarily affects infants and children under 5 years old. Clinical manifestations include fever and rash, which can cause serious cardiovascular complications.
