As the Covid-19 cases in Malaysia are nearing their 10K mark, Malaysian National Security Council (MKN) has announced that the country will be placed under a full lockdown (first phase), starting Tuesday, 1st June.
The announcement was made mere hours after the nation reached 8290 Covid-19 cases today, the highest number in Malaysia's Covid-19 history. The sharp rise in cases is reportedly due to the breaching of SOPs during the Eid holiday period. Thus far, the Health Ministry has recorded more than 20 Hari Raya Aidilfitri clusters— a gravely concerning number.
The ones being hit the hardest from the nation's third wave of Covid-19 are the front liners— many reported that the ICUs are crammed with patients and the morgues are suffocated with Covid-19 infected corpses, so much so that a large number of them have to be placed in containers.
According to the announcement, the first phase of the total lockdown means ALL sectors are NOT allowed to operate at all costs, except for essential economic and service sectors. If the first phase of the lockdown succeeds in reducing the Covid-19 cases, the country will then undergo the second phase.
The second phase will allow a few economic sectors to re-operate with strict SOPs. This would continue for four weeks in total. The third and final phase will be similar to the current MCO 3.0 should the number of Covid-19 cases continue to improve.
Malaysians, please do your part and stay at home. Our battle not over yet.
