The victory of PAS candidate, Che Alias Hamid, in the Kemaman Parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (PRU15) held late last year has been nullified by the Terengganu Election Court here today.
Judge Datuk Anselm Charles Fernandis made this decision after finding evidence of bribery to voters in the respective Parliamentary constituency during the PRU15 campaign.
He, who is also a High Court Judge in Melaka, ordered the respondent, Che Alias, to pay costs amounting to RM30,000 to the petitioner.
The Chairman of the UMNO Terengganu Relations Committee, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, filed a petition on January 3rd requesting the court to annul the PRU15 results for the Marang, Kemaman, and Kuala Terengganu Parliamentary constituencies.
All these petitions were filed in the Kuala Terengganu High Court, alleging widespread cash distribution in these three areas during PRU15.
Initially, the petition for the Kemaman Parliamentary seat had been dismissed by the Terengganu Election Court on February 12th.
However, the Federal Court ordered the election petition to be transferred to the High Court for a full trial after the appeal by the UMNO Terengganu Relations Committee was accepted on June 2nd.
In PRU15, Che Alias won the Kemaman Parliamentary seat with a majority of 27,179 votes, defeating three other candidates, namely Ahmad (Barisan Nasional), Hasuni Sudin (Pakatan Harapan), and Rosli Ab. Ghani (Pari Pejuang Tanah Air).
