If you want to have better skin, a better body, or just lose some weight, it's not enough to depend on diets and exercising. You need to detox your body! Our bodies are filled with "rubbish", either left behind after all useful nutrients and food have been digested, or infiltrated and accumulated from the environment. These toxins are the root cause of bad skin, dullness, obesity and even acne!



#Natural Detox

Our bodies might not be perfect, but it does have a way of getting most of the toxins out. This could be through sweating, passing gas, and defecating. That said, there are some foods that can and should be taken more often in our lives that are rich in nutrition and help to improve our body's detox functions.



#Carrots

A familiar food to most, seen in western or Asian dishes alike. It is usually served as a side but its nutrition value is off the charts. The generous content of dietary fiber help improve gastrointestinal peristalsis. Aside from that, carrots strengthen our body's immune system and have cancer prevention properties. It can be eaten raw to get the most out of it or blended into a juice (perhaps with some apples and oranges).



#Cucumber

The cool cucumber has plenty of benefits too, such as reducing cholesterol levels and preventing kidney stones. It has very low calories, making it suitable to be taken in large amounts. Not only that, you can even apply it externally as a mask!



#Black Fungus

Many people get instantly turned off by the name and the looks for the black fungus, but they actually taste quite refreshing! More popular in Asian dishes, the black fungus contains plenty of protein, Vitamin E, and fiber. All these help to reduce blood lipid levels, cholesterol levels, and keep our intestines running well, perfect for middle-aged people.



#Bitter Gourd

One of the well-known cancer fighting foods, bitter gourds are cooling and refreshing, help improve metabolism and cleanse our body of excessive fats. Therefore, those looking to lose weight can't have this missing from their diet! Some prefer juicing it with other fruits and vegetables, but if you're not a fan of the taste, you can consider cooking it (bitter gourd fried egg) or brewing it into a soup. TIP: Pick fully ripe bitter gourds that are dark green for minimum bitterness.



#Kelp

Kelp has a certain taste and texture that puts off most people, but you should know that it has rich contents of fiber, can cleanse our bloodstream, improve our metabolism, and detox our body. It's a true all rounder. That is why Koreans who have kelp and kimchi as their primary side dishes usually have such nice skin!



You can have it with your cold salad, but also brew it into a tofu stew if the taste is a little too much for you. Keeping it in water for a longer period of time before cooking it will also soften it and help reduce its strong taste.


No matter how bad or disgusting these food might seem to you, they are inherently good for you. They provide you with the nutrients you require while detoxing your body. So, for your own good, find some creative ways to prepare them and give them another try!
