We know how hard our Abang riders work on a daily basis to ensure that our food order arrives on time.
We also know how many hours they have spent in order to make as much money as possible in a day. Therefore there's a good probability they'll make much more than us, whether we have an office job or not.
At the end of the day, isn't hard labour a rewarding job as well?
Yet, some people look down on delivery riders because they consider it a blue-collar job and equate food delivery with low pay.
Yet, when one Abang rider put out a video showing how much individuals like him can earn a lot simply by delivering meals, he was slammed by netizens for "looking down" on others.
While he didn't purposefully brag about his earnings, he believes that "if one worked full-time for roughly 8-10 hours a day non-stop," they could easily take home $6.5k per month.
He also said in the video not to look down on delivery riders because their wages might be far higher than anyone else's.
Since then, he has removed the video after getting unexpected criticism for looking down upon other people.
He has stated unequivocally that his purpose was not to flex his income, but rather to inform others that there are a number of individuals who look down on those who are in his position.
Despite the backlash, there are still some people that encourage and support his dedication to his work.
He also stated that this is not his full-time work but a side hustle to help support his little business.
Though he has removed the original video, he has now made a response video in which he apologises for hurting anyone's feelings, which was not his intention in the first place.
