Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has initiated a focused operation to tackle the growing issue of illegal objects being used to reserve parking spaces in the Wangsa Maju area. This enforcement action took place on October 11, 2024, and resulted in the issuance of six compounds. During the operation, DBKL confiscated a variety of objects, including plastic bottles, broken tires, and even drying racks, which had been employed by individuals attempting to "chope" parking spots.
The crackdown comes in response to numerous complaints from local residents who expressed frustration over the misuse of public parking spaces. Many reported that some individuals were resorting to placing random items in parking spots, thereby hindering others from finding available parking. This practice has become particularly prevalent in areas with shop lots and high population density, where parking availability is already scarce.
In certain residential neighborhoods, the situation has escalated further, with residents reportedly using large plastic barrels to block off entire sections of the road for their personal parking needs. However, DBKL's recent enforcement actions have successfully cleared these makeshift barricades, restoring accessibility to the public roads.
DBKL has emphasized its commitment to monitoring the situation closely and will take necessary action against those found violating parking regulations. The public is encouraged to play a role in this initiative by reporting any instances of illegal parking spot reservations through the official DBKL channels.
