The Japanese animation industry has been affected by COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a report from China Central Television (CCTV),
employees from a local animation production company started working from
home since officials declared an emergency for the Tokyo metropolitan
area.
However, the efficiency of the employees who draw animations by hands were reported to be 30% lower than before because the drawings are submitted and revised back and forth.
In addition, animation dubbing has also been challenged. All animation dubbing work has been suspended since April because it needs to be carried out in an enclosed environment and a number of Japanese voice actors and actresses tested positive for COVID-19. On June 1, some of the recording studios reopened after a nearly two-month closure.
As of June 1, there are 45 Japanese animated films or TV shows that have been postponed or stopped broadcasting, including "Chibi Maruko-chan," which has been airing for the past 30 years.
