A district health inspector was slightly injured as a result of falling after being chased by a Covid-19 patient with a hoe, in Kampung Baru Serdang, Dungun, Terengganu, yesterday.
The incident that took place at about 12.15pm, resulted in the 39-year-old victim wounded on both palms, lips and chin. He received treatment at the Bandar Bukit Besi Health Clinic, before making a police report.
District Police Chief, Superintendent Baharudin Abdullah said the victim and a group of health workers were directed to the man's house to make a medical assessment after the suspect was detected fleeing from the Covid-19 Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Center (PKRC) at the State Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the victim introduced himself and told the purpose of the visit, but the 40-year-old suspect refused to cooperate.
"The suspect suddenly chased the victim with a cangkul to attack him, causing the victim to fall while trying to save himself," he said when contacted yesterday.
Baharudin said a background check revealed that the suspect, who was a laborer, had a previous record related to drugs according to Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1959.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Last Monday, the suspect who was supposed to undergo quarantine at PKRC Bersepadu Stadium Negeri until September 6 was detected fleeing and his disappearance was noticed by health workers at about 4.30pm during the process of taking vital signs as well as further examination which found his personal equipment not in the patient's bed.
