A few days ago, a video of a few BOMBA volunteers from Penang arguing with two workers at a toll plaza because they were refusing to pay the toll charges.
Here's the video:
Based on the video, the BOMBA volunteers are said to be on a mission of sending help to the flood victims and asked to be excluded from paying the toll charges.
However, the workers at the toll plaza informed them that there are no exclusions for everyone using the highway besides a few agencies that have been pre-determined.
The video got multiple views and a mixed reaction from netizens, some argued that they should be charged and some say they should. Here are some of their comments:
However, just today, the team of BOMBA volunteers came forwards and explained what actually happened.
According to them, the Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) investigated the issue and they informed the concessionaire that non -Government vehicles used for fire fighting and rescue duties should be given exemption from toll charges.
DUKE has also apologized to the team of BOMBA volunteers for the incident and said it happened due to confusion of the toll workers on duty.
The supervisor on duty at the time allowed the vehicle to pass the toll without any charges. In fact, the DUKE will update the toll operation SOP from time to time so that such incidents do not reoccur.
