Squid Game earned 14 Emmy nominations, the most ever for a foreign-language show, for the 2022 Emmy Awards!
Squid Game has become the first non-English language series ever to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmy Awards, going up against popular U.S. shows Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Ozark, Severance, Stranger Things, Succession, and Yellowjackets.
Furthermore, five Squid Game stars were nominated for acting awards, making them the first native Korean actors in history to earn nominations in their respective categories.
Lee Jung Jae is in the running for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while Jung Ho Yeon has been nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Park Hae Soo and Oh Young Soo are both in the running for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and Lee Yoo Mi is up for Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
Director Hwang Dong Hyuk has also become the first native Korean to earn Emmy nominations for directing and writing, snagging nods for both Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
The other awards for which Squid Game has been nominated this year include Outstanding Stunt Performance, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode.
