A Malaysian bird owner is pleading over the safe return of his beloved parrot, which has been gone for almost a week, and is offering a reward of RM6,000.
Sinar Harian reports that the parrot vanished following a terrifying encounter with an eagle.
On June 12, during a regular free-flying practice close to a rice mill in Changkat Lada, Seberang Perak, an incident is said to have taken place.
The owner, Muhammad Haziq Aminuddin, described the occurrence as follows: "The parrot was flying towards me and suddenly fled in panic as it was chased by an eagle."
"It turned and vanished in a different direction. Since it hasn't been located yet, I am concerned. This parrot requires careful attention since it is quite sensitive. Since I've only owned it for about four months, my prize of RM6,000 is being offered." he said.
"If you discover the parrot, kindly return it. It will perish if not given the right care. Speak with me if you locate it," he added.
Ujin the parrot is easily contacted thanks to a tag on its leg that carries Haziq's phone number.
"Owing to my love of birds, Ujin is the only parrot I own. I now really like doing this as a pastime," Haziq remarked.
Haziq has been free-flying with his bird before.
To teach the bird to come back on its own and to have some independence, he has carried out more than 20 of these exercises.
Haziq has sought the assistance of pals who are as passionate about parrots and has used a variety of social media channels to help spread information about Ujin's abduction.
Though Haziq had not yet made a police report, he said he would if Ujin remained unaccounted for in the next several days.
