A vacation in Phuket turned tragic for a 52-year-old Singaporean man, identified as Mr. Lee, who unexpectedly passed away during a visit to a massage parlor on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
The incident occurred around 11:00 pm at a massage parlor located on Patong Beach, a well-known tourist hub in Phuket. Police Colonel Chalermchai Hernsawat, superintendent of Patong Police Station, confirmed the details of the case.
According to the staff at the parlour, Mr. Lee exhibited difficulty breathing shortly after completing a 45-minute massage session. Loud snoring sounds, later identified as agonal breathing, prompted staff to intervene and call for emergency services. Despite efforts to perform CPR, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Patong Hospital.
Medical professionals believe Mr. Lee had already passed away before emergency responders arrived.
Mr. Lee's wife, who was present at the time of the incident, expressed her belief that her husband's death was due to his pre-existing health conditions rather than foul play. She shared that he led a sedentary lifestyle, often lacked adequate rest, and seldom engaged in physical activity.
She also revealed that Mr. Lee had consumed beer earlier that evening, prior to visiting the massage parlour a place he often frequented during his trips to Phuket.
Mr. Lee's wife declined an autopsy and requested that his body be repatriated to Singapore to perform religious rites.
Staff at the parlor noted that the massage session itself proceeded normally. However, shortly after the session, while Mr. Lee was resting, his condition deteriorated rapidly. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, leaving both staff and emergency responders shaken by the sudden turn of events.
