Finally getting your hard-earned academic scroll after years of exhausting your brain out is the dream of every soon-to-be graduate. One particular student from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), R. Kevin, 28 shared the same enthusiasm and even took the extra mile to step out of home at 6:30 AM for his 10:00 AM session.
However, his excitement was halted when he found himself stuck in heavy congestion along the Penang Bridge due to a fatal accident. Determined to receive his scroll, Kevin even considered walking his way to the university, which is generally quite a distance. To his relief, a good samaritan stopped and offered him a ride.
"At first, I hoped that the congestion would not last long, but after 9 AM and the vehicles were still not moving, I was determined to look for an alternative because my dream was just to go up on stage to receive my scroll today," said Kevin, recalling the incident.
Although he did not manage to express proper gratitude to the good samaritan, he is forever thankful. "Nevertheless, I take this opportunity to thank him," he continued. "Without his help, I would not have been able to get on stage today."
As reported by NST, the management of the 59th USM convocation ceremony was made aware of the circumstances and difficulties faced by some of their students due to the unexpected congestion and postponed the ceremony for 30 minutes.
