The 31-year-old suspect, whose neighbours referred to him as an "animal lover," suddenly had them complaining to the landlord about a foul stench coming from his unit. 

The landlord eventually filed a police report against the suspect and had him detained.

It was reported that animal carcasses were everywhere when the Malaysia Animal Association searched the unit.

The suspect was not only known as an "animal lover," but also as a neat and tidy person who keeps cats as pets.

It was then revealed that they discovered tens of cat skeletons, organs, and carcasses. They also found minced meat and chopped-up animal body parts in the unit.

The carcasses, which were thought to be those of cats, were in a late stage of decomposition.

The 31-year-old tenant is suspected of killing the animals.

One of his neighbours, Halijah stated that he's an individual with a chubby figure, but over the past one or two months, he lost weight and became very thin. He also looked unkempt.

"I asked him why he looked so thin and he said he was sick and needed to go to the hospital for treatment," Halijah added.

Around two weeks after speaking with the man, Halijah smelt something unpleasant coming from what she thought was an upstairs unit that was being used as a homestay.

The corpses that were placed in a white box in front of the man's house are what gave out the scent.

According to another neighbour of the suspect, there used to be many stray cats in the condominium area, but lately, the number has been decreasing.

"Residents are not permitted to own pets, yet from what I have seen, many ignore the regulations."

He was taken into custody on March 25 after a police report was filed on March 13; he will be held without bail for three days.
