In the heart of Kampung Dato, Abu Bakar Baginda, a small durian stall has risen to unexpected fame, not just for its delectable durians but also for the unconventional charm of its sellers. Durian Papa Muda has become a sensation thanks to a viral TikTok video featuring their shirtless sellers, Muhammad Al Irfan Mohamad Al Hady, 25, known affectionately as Irfan, and his cousins.
The now-famous video, initially captured by a customer and shared on TikTok, captures Irfan amidst the midday heat, diligently arranging freshly arrived durians sans shirt. Little did they expect that this candid moment would catapult their humble stall into the spotlight of social media.
"I didn't expect the attention. Many customers came after seeing it on TikTok. Some comments were negative, but I accept them," Irfan shared, reflecting on the unexpected influx of curious customers and the mixed reactions that followed their newfound fame.
Irfan's cousin, Muhamad Amirul Zaihan Osman, 31, known as Meor, highlighted that this year's business has seen a significant boost compared to previous years, attributing part of the success to the viral video. "Our improved physical fitness might have contributed to the videos popularity, as we've been actively working out after a long break from the gym," Meor mentioned, hinting at their dedication beyond just durian sales.
Beyond the controversy and mixed reactions, Durian Papa Muda continues to thrive as a testament to the power of social media in propelling local businesses into the limelight. The stall not only offers quality durians but also a unique charm that resonates with a diverse audience, drawn in by the authenticity and unexpected allure of its sellers.
As the durian season progresses, Durian Papa Muda stands as a symbol of entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability, proving that even amidst criticism and unexpected fame, the sweet taste of success can be found where passion meets opportunity.
