If you‘ve watched the critically acclaimed rom-com "Crazy Rich Asians", you’ve probably dreamt of being an affluent Asian living in the United States of America. However, the movie might seem a little more like a fantasy than reality to some. What if I told you that it was all real? Not only that, what if I told you that "Crazy Rich Asians" didn't even scraped the tip of the iceberg?
Netflix's latest reality show "Bling Empire" showcases not just the crazy rich, but the insanely rich Asian-Americans who have made Los Angeles their homes and the world their playgrounds! Imagine "Crazy Rich Asians" having a baby with "Keeping Up with the Kardashians", it's the perfect binge-watch during this MCO.
The series follows the lives of a group of ultra wealthy Asian-Americans, from their extravagant shopping spree to their endless parties, with romance, friendship, and a ton of drama in the middle. If you've ever fantasized about having lunch in Paris and shutting down entire stores just for you to shop, you can now watch other people do it for real!
The cast include a variety of characters from quirky models to flamboyant wealthy heirs to egoistic DJs, having roots from all around Asia such as Vietnam, Japan, Korea and even Singapore. Some of them have known each other for a long time, while others were brought together by the series. It turns out, when you put many wealthy people together, there's no such thing as a boring day, as you'll be on a roller coaster throughout the series going from "what the F***" to "awwww" and a lot of "damn, I wish I could do that".
Even though it is fun to watch, is any of it real? According to the executive producer Jeff Jenkins (who produced "Keeping Up With the Kardashians") and showrunner Brandon Panaligan, most of the show is not as scripted as it seems. Interviews with some of the cast members back that up.
So, if you're looking for a fun series to watch that doesn't require too much thinking, look no further than "Bling Empire". We might never be able to shut down museums for birthday parties or charter private jets for a shopping trip, but at least we can be dream and be proud of more Asian representation on TV. Also, to the producers: "WHERE IS SEASON 2?!"
