Today, police detained a guy who attempted to attack a police officer and steal his firearm at the Dato Keramat police station in George Town, Penang.
The 35-year-old local resident arrived at the police station on a motorbike at 4.45 a.m. and was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, according to Kosmo.
"The suspect has been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation," a source told the daily.
According to the source, the suspect is being treated at Penang Hospital after suffering minor injuries during his detention. He also tested negative for drug use.
According to Berita Harian, when questioned why he had come to the police station, the suspect reprimanded the officer and stormed into the complex.
The suspect then attempted to take the police officer's HK MP5 submachine gun, but failed.
When the police officer sought to diffuse the situation, the suspect removed his helmet and attacked him.
The policeman's colleagues then intervened, effectively apprehending the offender.
Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad stated in a statement that the suspect has four criminal convictions, two of which were drug-related.
He stated that the case is being investigated under sections 353 and 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and the use of criminal force to prevent a public worker from performing his duties, as well as Section 90 of the Police Act of 1967 for disorderly conduct in a police station.
