A tragic accident claimed the life of a 25-year-old factory worker, Muhammad Fakrul Alif Abd Rahman, on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) earlier today. The incident occurred at Km91.9 of the northbound lane near Kuala Muda, causing a significant traffic jam spanning several kilometers.
The accident, which happened at approximately 10:55 am, involved a motorcycle, a Perodua Kancil, and a lorry. According to Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail, the fatal incident unfolded due to negligence on the part of the victim.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Perodua Kancil had broken down and was parked in the emergency lane with its hazard lights on. Muhammad Fakrul, who was traveling on his motorcycle in the same direction, failed to notice the stationary vehicle and collided with its rear.
The impact of the collision threw the victim onto the main road, where he was struck by an oncoming lorry. Muhammad Fakrul, who hailed from Pendang, succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
The drivers of the Perodua Kancil and the lorry were unharmed in the accident. The police have since seized all vehicles involved for further investigation.
"This tragic incident was caused by the victim's negligence, leading to the collision with the stationary vehicle in the emergency lane," said ACP Wan Azharuddin.
The accident caused significant congestion along the northbound lane, with traffic stretching over several kilometers as authorities worked to clear the site.
Investigations are ongoing, and the authorities have urged road users to exercise greater caution, especially when traveling near stationary vehicles on highways.
