A disturbing incident has come to light in Kota Bharu, where a 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 23-year-old construction worker at a flood relief shelter. The incident, which occurred on December 2, has prompted a swift response from the authorities, with a police report filed and the suspect arrested.

According to Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat, the alleged rape took place in a storeroom at a school that was being used as a temporary relief shelter for flood victims. The victim and suspect are believed to have met at the shelter, and the incident was discovered by the girl's brother, who subsequently informed the authorities.

The suspect, who has been identified as a 23-year-old construction worker, was arrested on December 6 and remanded for six days to assist in the investigation. On December 12, he was brought to the Kota Bharu sessions court and charged with rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code. The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court has set a re-mention of the case for January 14, and no bail was offered. This decision reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the commitment of the authorities to ensuring that justice is served.

Unfortunately, this incident is not an isolated one. According to Yusoff, six other criminal incidents were reported during the recent floods in Kelantan, including four burglaries, one car theft, and one molest case. These incidents highlight the need for increased vigilance and support for those affected by the floods.
