After a 9-year-old's parents divorced, the daughter and mother converted to Islam, whereas the father did not. The parents were originally indigenous people. While the daughter was living with her father, she was forced to drink alcohol and was the victim of assault and bullying.
After the mother took her daughter back to Terengganu, the father filed for custody of the daughter from the courts with the help of some very powerful lawyers. Whereas, the mother does not have any help and only has to rely on NGOs to help fight her case.
