Perlis Menteri Besar Detained By MACC In Alleged Power Abuse Probe

Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli was taken into custody by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier today on suspicion of suspected power abuse.

Shukri was detained at the MACC office reportedly for making a comment over his son's probe, as reported by MalaysiaGazette.

The probe into Shukri's son concerns fictitious claims totalling RM600,000.

The son of Perlis Menteri Besar and four other people were previously detained by MACC to help with investigations into alleged bogus claims totalling RM600,000.

According to NST, on April 26, MACC granted them RM10,000 each in bond, with the stipulation that they must appear at the MACC office on a monthly basis.

The Perlis Menteri Besar is in the agency's headquarters, according to the MACC Chief.

Now, it is unclear whether the Perlis Menteri Besar's detention has anything to do with his son's situation, but the local media is claiming that he was detained for allegedly abusing his position of authority.

According to the reports, Shukri's presence at the agency headquarters was verified by MACC Chief Tan Sri Azam Baki, who did not rule out the possibility of the Perlis Menteri Besar being taken into custody.

If the commission is pleased with the Perlis Menteri Besar's declaration, Shukri might also be freed by MACC.
