Based on reports, Malaysia and Thailand have come to a consensus to revive the train that goes from Butterworth to Bangkok and back.
The plan was finalized 42nd Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB)-State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Joint Conference last week, and will go on a trial basis for six months.
The SRT cancelled this service back in 2016, making the route end on Padang Besar at the Malaysia-Thailand border.
This was after KTMB introduced its KTM Komuter Utara service between Padang Besar and Butterworth.
Passengers have been switching to KTM trains at Padang Besar to continue to Butterworth.
The revived direct train, will be operated by SRT and travel between Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in Bangkok and Butterworth station in Penang.
Besides that, the both trains have also agreed to extend the route of KTMB's MySawasdee tourist train further up north to Surat Thani station, instead of the usual Hat Yai station.
