Since opening its doors in September, stand-up comedian Nigel Ng's restaurant, Uncle Rogers, has become a trending spot for both Malaysians and international tourists. Named after Ng's iconic character, the restaurant combines humor with a culinary focus on fried rice, sparking curiosity and high expectations. However, not every diner has left with rave reviews. Recently, Hong Kong-based YouTuber Lukian Wang shared her honest, and somewhat disappointed, thoughts on the experience, calling out issues with both the service and menu availability.
In a video reel posted on her Facebook page, Lukian explained that she had been looking forward to trying Uncle Roger's food as a fan of his humorous takes on fried rice. Her visit began with excitement, arriving early and joining a line that had formed 40 minutes before opening. But her excitement quickly turned into frustration once she was seated. Lukian discovered that over half of the items on the menu were sold out, leaving her with limited choices a plate of fried rice and a glass of hot lemon tea.
Lukians disappointment started with her drink, noting that the hot lemon tea didn't live up to the menu photos, featuring only a thin slice of lemon instead of the generous garnish shown in promotional images. Things only got worse when she had to wait 60 minutes for her fried rice to be served. During the wait, she live-streamed her experience to her followers, laughing at the irony of the situation and jokingly suggesting the wet wipes on the table might be for "tears of frustration."
When her fried rice finally arrived, Lukian greeted it with a mix of relief and humor. Laughing with a fellow diner who asked if it was the best fried rice she had ever tasted, she replied, "Probably the best right now, because I'm starving." However, she didn't mince words about whether she'd return, firmly stating that the experience wasn't one she'd be eager to repeat.
To wrap up her review, Lukian shared a word of advice for potential diners. "If you're not a content creator invited by Uncle Roger himself, don't expect anything special," she cautioned. She noted that from what she had seen online, influencers often seemed to receive prioritized service, contrasting with the experience of "ordinary" customers like herself.
Uncle Roger's Restaurant remains a popular stop, drawing visitors intrigued by the unique blend of comedy and cuisine. Yet, reviews like Lukian Wangs highlight an important aspect of restaurant success: the need for consistent, reliable service that meets all customer's expectations. As the restaurant continues to draw crowds, Lukians candid feedback may serve as a reminder that keeping diners happy requires more than just a famous name and a good joke it also needs timely service and a dependable dining experience.
