Disney is stepping up to give the Oscar-nominated 1989 classic, 'The Little Mermaid' a live-action treatment. After the success of adaptations like 'Cinderella' starring Lily James, we wonder what we could expect from this Disney princess movie.
Release Date
The Little Mermaid is set to hit the theaters on 26th May of 2023. Originally the movie was set to release in November of 2019, but due to the pandemic and the production being pushed back, they were delayed.
Casts
Ariel will be portrayed by the beautiful Halle Bailey of the musical combo Chloe x Halle. While Prince Eric is portrayed by the good-looking Jonah Hauer-King.
Many celebrated Halle's role as Ariel when it was announced back in 2019 but she couldn't avoid some racist backlash from netizens. However, she did not let those hateful comments deter her.
Halle's grandparents gave her words of encouragement. "It was an inspiring and beautiful thing to hear their words of encouragement, telling me, 'You don't understand what this is doing for us, for our community, for all the little Black and brown girls who are going to see themselves in you," said Halle. In fact, many are looking forward to it.
