National track cycling star, Datuk Azizulhasni Awang, has announced his retirement following the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics, which ended yesterday.
In an interview with Astro Arena, the cyclist expressed confidence that his legacy in track cycling will be carried forward by his teammate, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom.
Datuk Azizulhasni reflected that Shah Firdaus had a strong chance in the keirin final if not for an unfortunate accident.
The incident left Azizulhasni saddened, knowing the immense potential Shah Firdaus holds.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Datuk Azizulhasni Awang congratulated Shah Firdaus on his outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics.
He acknowledged that reaching the final round of the keirin event at the Olympics is not an easy feat, a fact that cannot be denied.
Despite this setback, Datuk Azizulhasni Awang emphasized that Shah Firdaus’ performance is something to be proud of.
He expressed hope that Shah would persist in working hard and improving his performance to remain a formidable competitor on the international stage.
Emphasizing the importance of utilizing the next four years effectively to prepare for the LA 2028 Olympics, he acknowledged that, although it may seem early, this is the reality of competing at the highest level.
The nation couldn’t be prouder of both Shah Firdaus and Datuk Azizulhasni Awang.
Shah’s progress and determination on the world stage are truly commendable, and we look forward to his continued success in the years to come.
As for the one and only Pocket Rocketman, we bid a heartfelt farewell as he retires, knowing his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
