A Singaporean man suffered multiple injuries after bravely defending his wife's family from repeated harassment at their home in Kluang, Johor, during the Chinese New Year celebrations.
According to reports, the man, who had traveled to Malaysia with his wife, Ms. Fang, was attacked by a group of men who had been harassing the family for three consecutive days. The attackers set off firecrackers, splashed paint outside the home, and smashed car windows, forcing the family to defend themselves with sticks. During the altercation, Ms. Fang's husband sustained injuries to his head, ankle, chest, and arms.
Ms. Fang emphasized that her family has no connections to loan sharks, as the perpetrators did not leave any debt collection notices. The repeated harassment has left them fearing for their safety.
Her mother further revealed that this was not the first time they had faced such incidents. Their home had been targeted in both 2023 and 2024, yet despite filing multiple police reports, no resolution had been reached.
"If our family has a feud with anyone, we hope the perpetrator can give an explanation and we are willing to resolve the problem, " Ms. Fang's mother stated. "If they have found the wrong target, we hope they can stop harassing us."
During an attack on January 31, the family managed to subdue and tie up one of the men. Upon questioning, they discovered that he had been paid RM200 to harass them.
In an update on February 1, Johor police announced that a 37-year-old suspect had been arrested early that morning. Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh stated that officers responded to an incident at 5:50 am involving a machete attack. The suspect, who has a history of criminal and drug-related offenses, tested positive for methamphetamine and has been placed under reminder until February 3 for further investigation.
Authorities are currently working to track down two other accomplices involved in the case.
