Sungai Petani – Two teen sisters face the challenge of becoming orphans after losing both their parents in the span of 2 months.
The passing of their beloved mother, Normala Mad Desa, 45, due to brain cancer last August, really tested the two siblings who have always been their place of love and happiness.
After the departure of her mother, Nur Amanina Hazwani Romli, 15, and her sister, Nur Amera Natasya, 13, had to depend on their father, Romli Saad, 56.
However, they were once again tested when the father died due to Covid-19 on October 2.
The loss of the two loved ones has a profound effect on them as they have to think about their future without their loved ones.
They are at a loss to think about who will pay the rent for the house they grew up in at Kampung Kuala Ruat, Yan, at a rate of RM250 a month.
Not that they don't have other relatives, but the two siblings refused to bother anyone because they understand that their relatives too responsibilities towards their own families.
However, their sadness and worries about their future were a little healed when the Jariah Qaseh Orphanage in Perdana Heights, here, accepted the two siblings, starting yesterday.
Despite the difficulty of a home where many memories were made with their late parents, the two siblings involved had to leave for the sake of their future.
Nur Amanina Hazwani said, she still remembers the moment before her mother died when she first became unwell last Aidiladha, over time her condition got worse, and she was bedridden.
“Mother was only able to eat and drink where she was lying and only dared to get up to go to the bathroom. Then, my aunt told to us to take her to the hospital.
"We agreed but the mother's health was deteriorating, and she was unconscious when she was admitted to the ward before being confirmed dead the next day," she said.
According to her, they had barely gotten over their mother’s passing when their father, a fisherman, also died but due to COVID-19.
"I was close to my father and before he passed away, I noticed that he was in a tired and lethargic state when he was at home, but when asked he only said he had “sakit urat”.
"He asked me and my sister to go to the pharmacy to buy medicine, but he actually tested positive for Covid-19 and died on October 2 while receiving treatment at the hospital," he said.
The Head of Operations of the Hang Cangkul Madad Free Funeral Management Squad, Muhammad Ridzuan Osman, said that his party was informed about the story of the two siblings involved who had previously only asked for food assistance.
He said, when visiting them, they found that the two siblings really needed help to find a place to live because they were still young and no one could pay the rent for the house.
