Commotion ensued at the Georgetown district police headquarters as a PDRM officer refused to register a sexual assault report by the victim.
The victim from Penang alleges she was sexually assaulted in a female restroom in Komtar last Thursday (Oct 21).
The suspect-a homeless drug addict- was apprehended by the security team before turned over to the Georgetown district police headquarters.
However, the police officer refused to take the victim's report as the suspect is a homeless person with no identification documents on him.
He said that lodging a report will be a "waste of time".
Urban Life Volunteers Penang has since made the issue viral on Facebook, in hopes of justice.
Apparently, many incidents of sexual harassment has been taking place at the female toilets in Komtar. The police department however, sympathises with the culprits and let them walk away without taking any action!
Georgetown district police chief ACP Soffian Santong has promised a thorough investigation into the matter. According to him, the department will take disciplinary action against negligent police officers if found guilty.
The department has recorded the victim's statement last Friday (Oct 22). Police have opened an investigation paper into the alleged sexual assault claim in Komtar.
Meanwhile, the people are advised to be extra vigilant when frequenting public restrooms.
